FWS 37th Annual Exhibition

September 4 through November 15, 2008

We are so fortunate to be returning to exhibit at the Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture, a place we called home for our exhibit in 2001. Friday, September 19 our opening reception will be at  Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture, located in Old School Square, a Cultural Arts Center and National Historic Site at 51 N. Swinton Ave.  It is a short walk through this lovely quaint town full of restaurants and small shops with artsy flair to our Tradeshow and Convention.

All members who are paid up by April 30, 2008 will be looking for their prospectus to be in their hands around the 8th of May.  Hopefully all will have paintings done and slides made because the turn around time is not long with a June 20th Deadline.  Please remember paper (yupo Included) or illustration board for your painting surface.

The energy filled days will explore creative methods of watermedia application, including texturing and the building of layers of paint.  Participants will be exposed to new techniques and materials that will allow them to better express their visions and ideas through their paintings.  The methods taught and materials utilized will be suitable for both representational and abstract imagery.  Demonstrations and discussions will encompass and focus on composition and design, how to recharge your work, sources of inspiration and the business of being an artist.  Each day will include plenty of time for painting and optional critiques.  This workshop promises to be lively, energetic and best of all fun filled!

Ted Nuttal NWS

Ted Nuttall is the quintessential people watcher, a habit that has engendered an intuitive ability to capture, in his paintings, the quiet underlying character of his subjects.

A graduate of Colorado Institute of Art, Ted is a figurative watercolorist whose painting expression was born out of his observation of people, his experience and travels as an illustrator for the United States Air Force, and a twenty five year career in graphic design.  His work, as a designer, illustrator, and fine artist has won numerous national, regional and local awards.

Though often viewed by many as intimidating and challenging, painting the figure can be just as approachable as a still life or landscape and brings with its accomplishment a unique satisfaction and reward.  In his workshop Ted will discuss, with daily demonstrations and one on one interaction with the class members, how to achieve spontaneity, character and life in your figure paintings.  As he shares with you his approach to the figure and some specific techniques he uses to bring excitement to his paintings you will find your paintings taking on a new life and will have great fun in the process.
